American missing in Iran for several weeks: official

AFP: An American citizen has been missing in southern Iran for several weeks, the US State Department confirmed Monday.

The US national, who has not been identified, was "in Iran on private business," spokesman Sean McCormack said, adding that neither his employer nor his family had heard from him for "several weeks."

The United States on Monday called on Iran to investigate the man's disappearance, passing a message via Swiss officials, McCormack said.

Washington and Tehran broke off diplomatic ties 27 years ago and US interests in Iran are conducted via Switzerland.

Earlier the CNN television network reported the American was believed to be working for an independent media producer trying to set up interviews when he went missing on Kish Island, a free-trade zone under Iranian authority off its southern coast.

For years Iran has received a consistent message from the global gurus at the United Nations: Nobody is prepared to stop you. Groveling is the skill democratic states have honed at the U.N. when confronted with naked aggression and the violation of every right and freedom they supposedly hold dear. Common sense and experience have confirmed, time after time, that making concessions to terrorism and barbarity produces more of each –however, this lesson is lost to almost all leaders in the West. Today, Iran reports release of Iranian diplomat seized in Iraq...

Good post! You're absolutely right, the U.N. is part of the problem and solves nothing. We should withdraw from the U.N. entirely! Groveling certainly is the skill of our U.S. politicians. I'm glad President Bush is standing firm on his resolution to veto the BS that will be put on his desk as soon as the idiots come back from their Easter vacations!

Dear Gayle: It's so good to see you again. Last night, I was thinking about how much I miss your blog.

Yes, the UN is useless. It has turned into of den of anti-semitism and anti-Americanis. It's mind boggling to see that we're still funding this entity.
