I feel like I should know, but I'm completely blank, so I must not know -- I recognize the scarf.
My guess is that he is the American director John Landis who once made a movie that featured the Iranian-American community of So. Cal. The movie was made in the mid 80s and it was called Into the Night.
It was quite entertaining and hilarious. It starred Michelle Pfeiffer and Jeff Goldblum.
Landis himself played the role of one of the Iranian 'gholdors' in the movie. :)
