Iranian-American Singer/Songwriter: Anousheh Khalili

Anousheh Khalili is a Richmond, Virginia-based singer/songwriter of Persian background
She is known for providing vocal talent and appearing in the videos for Deep Dish's "Flashdance" and "Say Hello", the latter of which was nominated for a Grammy in 2006 in the Best Dance Recording category

Anousheh Khalili commands the listener with songwriting that bears the authenticity of old country tunes with a pop sensibility that makes them memorable. Her sound is piano-laden and lead by strong and lucid vocals, and has been compared to the likes of Neko Case, Fiona Apple, and a more vocally robust Cat Power.

Her first album, “Let the Ground Know Who’s Standing on Him”, was released in November 2004 on Triple Stamp Records. The album is a handful of intimate, bare-bones songs peppered with delicate instrumentation and lilting vocal harmonies.

Anousheh is currently living in Richmond VA, and working on her second album with Triple Stamp Records. After several years as a solo artist, she now performs with her band, Allen Bergendahl (bass and engineer) and Michael Satterfield (drums). Both join her on stage this evening. The trio recently recorded an episode of MHz Spotlight for MHz Networks which airs in the DC metro area in August.

Watch her Performances at The Kennedy Center here.

I love her music and almost I have been in all her concerts. Can’t wait for her new CD and she is collaborating with deep dish for another new song. "Be the change” and I am waiting for that release also.
