Have they cracked down on "immoral dress codes" before, or is there a reason why it's happening now?

In the early days, after Khomeini and his thugs hijacked the revolution and solidfied their power, they declared 'Hejab' compulsory whereas before the revolution, you had a choice and most women chose not to wear any Islamic hejab. To enforce the new law, they had patrol cars with these vigilante zealot women who would stop women at a gun point and if they had lipstick on and they would wipe the lipstick with a Handkerchief with a razor inside it to cut the lips of women and then they would be taken to the police station and charged for indecency... Bright colors such as white, red, blue, yellow, orange and green were forbidden. After Khatami was elected, they eased up on a lot of that...

P.S. There is a beautiful Persian movie you can rent and it's all about what the country went through because of color deprivation for a while. I don't remember the name the movie right now but I'll try to look it up.

To give you a better picture of what's going on, I will put it like this: My mother and grandmother and my older sisters had more freedom and did not wear scarf or any Islamic hejab while growing up. I remember my grandmother always made sure to have a bright red lipstic on to match her velvety long straight black hair, which made my mom crazy because my mom's hair was curly and she didn't look good with make up..LOL.so these young women who are about 28 years old now had mothers who did not wear Islamic Hejab or scarfs and they were totally westernized (miniskirts, shorts and all). Having been raised by Westernized mothers, they hate the hejab and they will do anything to get away with it. I hope this explains things a bit. Note: They don't have the same problem in Arab countries.

ARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH! That woman said "When you go out, make sure you are following the social norms of this country!" Then they come over here and do they follow the "social norms" of this country? Hell no! They do whatever they please and if we object they have CAIR and the ACLU to fight for them for free. It makes me crazy!

Dear Gayle: That's a brilliant point you made...Why didn't I think of that?LOL

Disgusting to watch, but necessary to know. Thanks.

Serendip, please explain: "Note: They don't have the same problem in Arab countries."

Dear Lesly: I knew you would ask me about that...LOL

The answer is multifaceted and it would take a book to explain it. But it has to do with the history of Islam and how it was imposed and transplanted into a vastly different culture than Arabs. I think the best way to explain it would be via email. You can email me at deletion10p13@inbox.com

Hamid Dabashi, a left-leaning intellectual (ex-communists), a professor at Columbia university recently wrote about some of it in his book, "People Interrupte".
