Iraq Study Group report: More Appeasement please!

The Iraq Study Group Report has now been published. You can read it here and here.

The absurdity of it all is that they call it,"The Way Forward: A New Approach". Underwritting tyrannical regime is our new approach? This is hardly "The Way Forward".

The Washington Post headline: "Experts: Syria, Iran willing to aid USA." We should rejoice.
What planet do these writers live in?

I agree with Robert Kagan and William Kristol (yes, the monstrous neocons) on the harmful ramifications that have already resulted from the delusional recommendations by Iraq Study Group:

It's not as if the Baker commission has accomplished nothing, however. Although its recommendations will have no effect on American policy going forward, they have already had a very damaging effect throughout the world, and especially in the Middle East and in Iraq. For the Iraq Study Group, aided by supportive American media, has successfully conveyed the impression to everyone at home and abroad that the United States is about to withdraw from Iraq. This has weakened American allies and strengthened American enemies. It has exacerbated the problems in Iraq, as all the various factions in that country begin to prepare for the "inevitable" American retreat. Now it will require enormous efforts by the president and his advisers to dispel the disastrous impression that the Baker commission has quite deliberately created and will continue to foster in the weeks ahead. At home and abroad, people have been led to believe that Jim Baker and not the president was going to call the shots in Iraq from now on.

The neocons are so weakened now, I wonder if Baker will call the shots.

Thank you for plugging the Amnesty Int'l petition r/t to the seven women in Iran.

You're more than welcome.

Kristol and Kagan though have this odd idea that more troops will help- the problem is given Afghanistan and the need for troops on the Korean border where do those troops come from? The Baker proposals should have been private but the idea that in a position of weakness we might have to negotiate has a little bit of sense within it.

And don't forget Baker's recommendation to replay Munich, 1938:

Let's call a conference to decide the fate of Israel. We'll invite the US, Iran, Syria, and the PLO.

Remember, Munich led directly to WWII. Hitler (the appeased) was not happy with it, because he didn't get to have his short and easy war over Sudetenland.

I think that 2007 will be a bloody year.

Grachhi: Iran has already refused to help according to Baker last night on PBS but he wants their uncooperation publicized and documented. More troops will not help either in Iraq. Iraq belong to those who really think they're Iraqis not shiites or sunnis...
