Interesting verse you selected.
1 Samuel 30

In verses 3 to 6 "So David and his came home (they'd been away fighting a war), "...it was, burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep....(and the people were ready kill their leader David) Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters.

This could be President Bush today. The people have proposed stoning him, yet. They have proposed running away in defeat. But David did not quit. Nor did David let the people quit.

See verses 9 and 10. "But David pursued, he and four hundred men; for two hundred stayed behind, who were so weary that they could not cross the Brook Besor." He did have leave some behind because they too exhaused to continue.

He eventually finds the beasts, (verses 16-20) "Then David attacked them from twilight until the evening of the next day. Not a man of them escaped, except four hundred young men who rode on camels and fled. So David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away, and David rescued his two wives. And nothing of theirs was lacking.."

Far differnt that retreat-in-defeat leaders in America. Leaders who refuse to persist until the succeed. Lazy leader who prefer the easy of path of defeat than the harder path of success.
