Che's children protest portrayal of dad in Tehran
Harry's Place: Fabian on his blog links to a report in the Argentine newspaper Clarin of a visit to Tehran by Che Guevara's son and daughter, along with other "leftists," to participate in a conference comparing Che with Mostafa Chamran, a leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution, who organized Islamic revolutionary activities throughout the Middle East and who died in the Iran-Iraq war.
According to the report, the Guevaras took vocal exception to an Iranian speaker who claimed that Che was a believer in God, was not a socialist or communist, and hated the Soviet Union. The Latin American delegation left the conference after protesting the distortions.
Clarin quoted a leftwing Iranian university student:
"Ahmadinejad has visited several Latin American countries during the last two years. But to believe in Socialism is a considered a crime in the Islamic state, that is punished with death... (Daniel) Ortega and other Leftist leaders must clarify their stance about their relations with Iran. We feel betrayed when, for the economic benefit of their countries, they decide to support Right wing extremists and fascists like Ahmadinejad."

Interesting. The contradiction between the extreme of revolutionary Communism and the extreme of revolutionary Islamism is immediately evident, thus makes this alliance seem somewhat hypocritical, but what is not immediately evident is that in terms of rhetoric and several core ideologies, these two extremes are the same.
Both go against the same "Exploiting Oppressive System", and against the perceived ideology of this Enemy. The speak of the same injustices (with the exception of religion, where both hold opposing views). They seek extreme changes, and both differ merely on the solution for what they view as degeneration of society. Communism saves by forcing collectivism and religion (Atheism Leader Worship), Shi'a Shari'aism saves by forcing religion (Shi'a Islam Leader Worship) and, if I'm not mistaken, a kind of Islamised Socialism.
That their solutions differ is true, but that is merely a long-term goal. There is much before this that is very similar.
One must play on the differences, especially when it comes to the fanatical religious aspect of both, and the old state-ideals Communists still think worked (ignoring the Soviet Union's collapse) and that Shari'aists hate. Of course, here you will face doublethink, the resolution of conflicting facts, ideas, or opinions if driven by an ideal or emotion that is stronger than the ones in conflict.
Good job Che is dead for if he had been in the conference and heard all that nonsense he would have had a heart attack and died.

Hi Serendip! I'm glad you are obviously enjoying yourself, staying away from all this for a little while! Of course, it does feel like your holiday is a long one, as I have missed you.
