Everything is a test

Most of us find it easy to accept the idea of a Creator and a cause and effect principle at work in our universe when things are going well.
We just as readily doubt the existence of a Creator, however, when we face a sudden obstacle or stressful situation. The kabbalists teach us that absolutely everything is a test. If we can maintain certainty in the Light when adversity strikes, we will pass the test and the Light will work for us 100 percent of the time.
This is a simple concept to grasp but a difficult one to live by. Practice holding on today by viewing your challenges in this light.

daily consciousness tune-up 08.05.07

Do you see the truth in people?
The secret is not to see yourself within others, but rather to see others within yourself. When you treat people as if they were part of your own flesh and blood, you are better able to identify with them, to know their truth, and to offer them compassion.
Imagine every one you meet today is YOU. Put yourself in your own shoes.
"When you believe it, then you will see it." – The Rav

daily consciousness tune-up 07.22.07
Photo: Courtesy of Paris ParfaitMore than just noticing the pain that people experience in the world, we must actively search for it and teach ourselves to experience it as our own. But this is not an exercise in sadness or guilt.
The true purpose of feeling another’s pain is to inspire us to attend to our spiritual work, which includes taking physical action in the world to alleviate human suffering.
In discussing this with Kabbalah students, I’ve sometimes seen them shake their heads sadly. “It sounds very inspiring,” they tell me, “but what’s the use? The magnitude of suffering in the world is just too great.
There’s just too much pain for anyone to really make a difference.” This line of thinking is one of the most potent weapons of our negative inclination. Kabbalah empathically counsels us not to measure righteousness “by volume.” Just as the reverberations of a butterfly’s wings can eventually create a tornado, every positive act, however small, brings Light into the world which opens a channel for more Light.
In this way the transformation of humanity will eventually become a reality.Suppose your house were on fire and you had time to save some of your possessions but not all of them. Would you throw your hands up and say, “Forget it, if I can’t save it all, I’ll just let it all burn,” or would you run into the house and grab what you could?
Most of us would do the latter, and the same principle applies to the situation of the world in general.Alone, we cannot possibly alleviate all the pain and suffering that exists, but this is not a reason to stop trying. Kabbalah tells us that if we can help even one person, it is as though we’ve saved the entire world.
"We have come here for only one reason, to see how we are going to deal with our fellow man. It's not about how righteous we will be - throw that out. It is about where our consciousness lies with our fellow man. This is the most critical task of humanity."- The Rav

daily consciousness tune-up (singularity)
Negativity is spreading. There is a tremendous amount of hurt in the world right now. Most of us can feel that hurt inside. What is to be done? We can pray for the people of the world from our mountain top or we can take it upon ourselves to make one person feel better today. We no longer have the luxury of worrying only about our own families.
If we want to make a difference so that this world can continue to exist, then we must begin to see everyone around us - stranger and enemy included - as our family. Make a difference today. No matter how small the action, do something for someone in need. Help engulf the world with positivity instead of negativity
In la kesh‘ (Inlakesh) is a Mayan word that means “I am another you”, similar to the Sanskrit ‘Namste‘ which means “the divinity within me salutes the divinity within you”.Recognizing the divine in each person that we encounter, reminding us to live in simplicity and love, in peaceful coexistence and respect, encompasses the truest aspirations

daily consciousness tune-up

Do you recognize the gift of Light you can give to others?
We sometimes get so stuck in the illusion of our five senses that we cannot see beyond the physical. We look to others to define our self worth, rather than identifying the Light within as our true gift.
The technology of giving is the real and lasting way to turn the Light on in our lives. If we could just get past the "what's in it for me?" and "when am I gonna get mine?" mentality, then the clarity, peace, success and joy we so desperately seek would be ours.
Take time today to share unconditionally. Actually, take more than just time. Make it your project. Go out of your comfort zone and don't expect anything in return. You're going to get much more than you can imagine.

NOT!
Unfortunately, we fixate on material proof and tangible results to justify our spiritual work. However, there is no time, space and motion in the 99% realm, and therefore, no waiting in line, no money, and no need for travel. Everything you need exists in the here and now.
In what ways are you too attached to the outcome of your efforts in life? Spend time today detaching - focus on the process and not the end result.

daily consciousness tune-up

Grand Canyon, Arizona
Kabbalists say our thoughts do not come from the brain, just as music does not originate in the circuits of a physical radio. They compare the brain to an antenna - it picks up a signal and rebroadcasts it into the conscious mind.
There are two broadcast stations - the Light and the Opponent. Distinguishing thoughts that come from the Light from those that come from the Opponent, allows us to reclaim control of our lives.
As you go through your day, become aware of which thoughts originate from the Opponent and which come from the Light.
